This interesting film stars Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid and is set in Hartford in the 1950s. He is the successful businessman with the lovely stay-at-home wife and two beautiful children, and a very nice home---everything is just as it should be. Except this is the 1950s and emotions are not part of the picture. Conformity is the key to success.
As it turns out, he is gay and she becomes attracted to a black man---and in the 1950s both of these things are totally unacceptable in polite society.
All the repressive, controlled emotions of the era are well captured in this film.
Yes, we have come a long way from the 1950s, thanks in part to the rebellions of the 1960s. But, just how far have we come and how far do we still need to go?
