1921 • As a student at the École des Chartes, introduced to ethnology by Alfred Métraux, who attended lectures of Marcel Mauss.	1921 • A. Breton & P. Soupault, Les champs magnétiques (regarded as first surrealist work)
1922 • Receives diploma from École des Chartes in paleographic archiving; thesis on L’Ordre du Chevalerie • While living in Madrid, witnesses the death of Granero. • Returns to France and takes position in the Cabinet des Médallions at the Bibliothèque Nationale.	1922 • A. Breton, L. Aragon, P. Éluard, B. Péret, as editors of Littérature, break with Dada after T. Tzara’s refusal to participate in Breton's Congress for the Determination of Directives and the Defenses of the Modern Spirit.
1923 • Métraux brings to B.'s attention Mauss's Essai sur le don	1923
1924 • Begins friendship w/ M. Leiris. • Meets surrealists; enters into conflict with A. 1926 • Unsigned note on medieval “fatracies” published in La Révolution surréaliste	1926 • Sep - Breton responds to Naville’s “La révolution et les intellectuals” in Légitime défense • Moroccan resistance (led by Abd-el-Krim) defeated by French military.
1927 • Writes L‘Anus Solaire (published in 1931 with illustrations by A. Masson) • Influence of Freud leads to psychoanalysis with Dr. Adreien Borel	1927 • P. Naville, La révolution et les intellectuals (N.R.F.)
