Today was our first of three “Volunteer Saturdays.” These are designed for interested folks who want to see the site or work with the student crews and try their hand at archaeology. Family members of the field crew are also welcome to stop by. In the morning and early afternoon, we were treated to visits from Kathryn’s sister Ruth, and Matthew’s parents, Donna and David.

Dennis and Leigh Ann also stopped by to help out Shonda and Matthew with their excavations.

While excavating in our Mississippian midden Dennis found an impressive piece of cord marked pottery.

A couple of Maddie’s friends, Niles and Brady came out as well.

Here, they are shovel skimming in a test unit in the center of the Wynnewood North Field where we’ve been finding lots of historic pottery, including this piece of pearlware.

Today was one of the warmest days we’ve had so far, and most of our visitors wisely left before the hottest part of the day.

If you are interested in seeing what we’re doing and if the weather cooperates, come out and pay us a visit next Saturday!
