Our units are draining nicely. With any luck, all of them will be dry by the end of the week, except of course for C15 and C16 in the northeast corner of the field.

Given the generally wet conditions, our excavations have become home to a number of water-loving critters including “Tog” the frog and a camera-shy black racer.

Despite the crew’s best efforts to teach Tog basic archaeological field methods, he was not willing to learn and was thus dismissed from the field school.

We were also visited by J. Intinoli a professional photographer from MTSU who wanted to take some promotional photos for the university.

We found several interesting artifacts today, but unfortunately, they were discovered after the photographer left. These included a biface from the C block excavation…

… and a gate weight from Unit C23.

As the day was drawing to a close, we discovered an odd arrangement of limestone in one of our C block units. We’re not quite sure what this could be, but maybe we will know more tomorrow when we have a chance to finish exposing the feature.
