Tennessee Archaeology Net (TAN) is a public service provide by Dr. Kevin
Smith, Associate Professor of Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State
University. Tennessee Archaeology Net has been approved by Mr. George F.
Fielder (State Archaeologist of Tennessee and Director of the Tennessee
Division of Archaeology) as an official outlet for dissemination of
information on Tennessee Archaeology.
TAN consists of two primary components: (1) the TNARCH-L mailing list;
and (2) The
Tan Web Pages.
TNARCH-L STATEMENT OF
PURPOSE
TNARCH-L is designed to promote and enhance the distribution of
information about archaeology in Tennessee to the interested public and
professional archaeologists. TNARCH-L is a "moderated list" -- in other
words, the listowner reviews and approves all submissions to the list
before they go to list subscribers.
The types of information currently posted on the list include: field
school information; archaeology exhibits; special events like Archaeology
Days, Archaeology Fairs; internships in archaeology; archaeology programs
open to the general public; information on legislation pertaining to
archaeology in Tennessee or other matters, and other similar sorts of
info.
Chat and discussions will not be forwarded to list recipients. Queries or
comments of general interest will be forwarded on a case by case basis.

subject line blank
- place the following one-line message in the body of
the text
- subscribe TNARCH-L YOURNAME
- where YOURNAME is your
name (not your email address). For example, I would send:

The TAN Web pages include information on Archaeology Societies you can
join throughout Tennessee, text of state archaeology and burial laws,
contact archaeologists at various government agencies, important
information from the State Archaeologist, and a variety of other types of
general information. Please visit the Web Site.
