Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business New Building Use and Space Proposal

Conceived as an entertainment oriented blend of the Business & Economic Research Center (MTSU) and theInstitute of Communication and Information Research (Univ. of AL), the Curb College proposes to include in the new building an Entertainment Industry Research Lab that will work alongside local and national Music, Entertainment, and Media industries in order to address issues and research questions related to the economic impact of major entertainment events occurring locally and nationally; the influence of entrepreneurship on the music, media, and entertainment industries; and the forces driving growth and/or consolidation and interactions between commerce, media, and technology.

"We're seeing some improvement, but it's still pretty slow," said Dr. David Penn, director of the Business and Economic Research Center at Middle Tennessee State University. "It does seem to be a bit stronger market than even a few months ago when it looked like the labor market was stalled. In general, the hot spots in Tennessee seem to be around Nashville and, to a lesser extend, around Knoxville. Those areas have stronger manufacturing and in-migration of residents."

Shelby and Davidson counties benefit from foreign firms by gaining a combined 26,000 jobs, while Rutherford benefits from almost 11,000 jobs. Foreign investment has created over 6,000 jobs in Hamilton County and 2,500 jobs in Knox County.
