America: History & Life [online]. Santa Barbara, CA : ABC-Clio, Inc., 1998- . This database is particularly useful for finding letters and diaries that have appeared in history journals. Use the "Time Periods" option in the advanced search.

Goodfriend, Joyce D. The Published Diaries and Letters of American Women: An Annotated Bibliography. G.K. Hall women's studies publications. Boston, Mass: G.K. Hall, 1987. Goodfriend provides rich annotations of periodical articles and books.

Google Book Search will eventually have content from most of the published diary and letter collections that were published before 1923.
