This site was designed, created, and is currently maintained by Angela Smith, PhD student in history at Middle Tennessee State University. A team consisting of Virgil Statum, MA student, and Angela Smith, were responsible for research and content. We are thankful to Dr. Pippa Holloway of MTSU who commissioned the site in her 2006 African American History Seminar. A special thanks is due to Gail O'Brian for her contribution to the history of this event that she explores in her book, The Color of the Law. Her book alerted us to this important event in Tennessee history.
